O Bumlumon, llif y dŵr yn arian
I Aberystwyth, y môr sy’n ddiddan.
Yn ddiweddar cawsom yr anrhyededd o ddylunio a chreu coron ar gyfer Eisteddfod Rhyng-golegol 2025 oedd yn cael ei chynnal yn Aberystwyth. Mae myfyrwyr yn dod o bob cwr o Gymru i’r eisteddfod i gystadlu a chynrychiolu eu prifysgol mewn cystadlaethau lu!
Y brîff yn syml oedd ‘Y Môr’ sy’n berthnasol iawn gan fod yr eisteddfod yn y Brifysgol ‘Ger y Lli.’ Efallai beth ddaeth a’r anrhydedd mwyaf i mi oedd cael dylunio coron sy’n cynrychioli’r dref lle ges I fy ngeni.
Mae dyluniad y goron yn syml gydag amrywiaeth o dechnegau ynddi o waith enamel cain i rifetio ac ysgythru. Mae’r brass melyn sy’n ganolbwynt pwerus i’r goron yn cynrychiolu’r haul. Fel y gwyddoch, mae’r haul yn machlud ar y môr yn Aberystwyth sy’n dod a ni wedyn i’r bwâu ar y naill ochr fel tonnau’r môr.
Mae’r bwâu yn ffordd effeithiol o gynrychiolu tonnau sy’n cydfynd â thema’r môr ond hefyd mae yna 6 bwa lliw arian i gynrychiolu 6 copa uchaf mynyddoedd y Cambria- Pumlumon Fawr, Pumlumon Fach, Pumlumon Llygaid-bychan, Pumbumon Cwmbiga, Pumlumon Arwystli ac yn olaf Y Garn. Y 6 mynydd sy’n cwmpasu’r ardal lle ges i’n fagu.

Roedd diwydiant cloddio plwm arian yn bwysig yno yn ystod y ganrif diwethaf felly roedd yn berthnasol i ddefnyddio’r lliw arian i gynrychioli’r dŵr yn llifon ‘arian’ uno â’r Rheidol ac hyd yn oed yr Ystwyth islaw cyn llifo i’r môr yn Aberystwyth.
Rwyf wir wedi mwynhau creu’r goron. Mae wedi fy herio i drio technegau newydd, I fod yn uchelgeisiol yn fy ngwaith ac wedi rhoi pleser mawr. Diolch yn fawr i Undeb Myfyrwyr Cymraeg Aberystwyth am yr her a’r cyfle.

Recently, we had the honor of designing and creating a crown for the 2025 Intercollegiate Eisteddfod, which will be held in Aberystwyth. Students come from all corners of Wales to compete in the eisteddfod and represent their university in a variety of competitions!
The brief was simple – ‘The Sea,’ which is very relevant as the eisteddfod will take place at the university ‘By the Sea.’ Perhaps the greatest honor for me was designing a crown that represents the town where I was born.
The design of the crown is simple, incorporating various techniques, from fine enamel work to riveting and engraving. The brass, which is the powerful center point of the crown, represents the sun. As you know, the sun sets over the sea in Aberystwyth, leading us to the arches on either side, representing the waves.
The arches are an effective way to represent the waves that align with the theme of the sea, but there are also six silver arches to represent the six peaks in the Cambrian Mountains – Pumlumon Fawr, Pumlumon Fach, Pumlumon Llygaid-bychan, Pumlumon Cwmbiga, Pumlumon Arwystli, and finally, Y Garn. The six mountains surround the area where I grew up.

Translates to "From Pumlumon, the flow of water is silver, To Aberystwyth, the sea is delightful."
The silver lead mining industry was important in the area during the last century, so it was relevant to use the silver colour to represent the water flowing ‘silver’ uniting with the Rheidol and even the Ystwyth rivers below before joining the sea in Aberystwyth.
I have truly enjoyed creating the crown. It has challenged me to try new techniques, to be ambitious in my work, and has this given me great pleasure. Many thanks to the Aberystwyth Welsh Students' Union for the challenge and the opportunity.
