Behind the Scenes: The Making of a Piece

It all begins with an idea. Creating a piece of artisan jewelry is a personal and intricate process. Let me walk you through how I craft each unique piece from start to finish.

1. Finding Inspiration

Every piece starts with inspiration. I draw ideas from nature, my experiences, and sometimes even from a dream. I then sketch out these ideas, refining them until the design feels just right.

2. Choosing Materials

Next, I carefully select the materials. I choose the finest metals and gemstones, ensuring they align with the design and will create a durable, beautiful piece.

3. Crafting the Prototype

For complex designs, I sometimes create a prototype using cheaper materials. This helps me perfect the design and address any structural issues before working with the final materials.

4. Metalwork

Now, the real work begins. I cut, shape, and solder the metal to match my design. This step requires precision and patience. I use tools like saws, files, and torches to form the basic structure of the piece.

5. Setting Gemstones

If the piece includes gemstones, I create the settings and carefully place each stone. This is delicate work, requiring a steady hand and a lot of attention to detail to ensure the stones are secure and well-positioned.

6. Polishing and Finishing

With the metalwork and gemstone setting complete, I polish the piece to a high shine. This step transforms it from a rough creation to a beautiful piece of jewelry. I add any final touches, like engraving or texturing, to enhance the design.

7. Quality Check

Before I consider the piece finished, I thoroughly inspect it. I check under magnification for any flaws and ensure all settings are secure. This step is crucial to ensure the piece meets my high standards.

8. Presentation

Finally, I clean the piece and package it beautifully. I include a note of thanks, adding a personal touch to the finished product.

Creating artisan jewellery is a labour of love. Each piece carries a part of my heart and soul, making it unique and special. When you wear one of my creations, you’re not just wearing jewelry—you’re wearing a piece of art crafted with passion and dedication.
